Project Report TRIUMPH, in Wiener Neustadt
Central Warehouse for Europe.
It goes without saying that the new central warehouse of this worldwide acting traditional company with a capacity of more than 140,000 storage units - pallets and cartons - belongs to complex logistics systems.
For this system, Klug realised the warehouse management system as well as the entire control system for automatic cranes and transport system, including the mobile terminals in the picking cabins on the three Retrapic cranes for picking man-to-goods.
Triumph in Wiener Neustadt realised three warehouse systems in one silo
Triumph attached importance to the fact that the warehouse management system and the material flow computer with the interconnected crane and transport system controls came from one single source, without any additional interfaces from other suppliers, in order to have one central correspondent in service cases.

Beside the pallet store with a height of 30 metres, two warehouse systems were installed on top of each other in the silo: on the ground floor the semi-automatic Retrapic system for picking already opened cartons. On top of it - only separated by gratings - the automatic small parts store with 6 aisles, for automated picking of complete cartons.

Another special feature is the fully automatic supply of cartons for the Retrapic picking area. For this purpose, supply aisles were installed between the picking crane aisles as well as at the Retrapic store’s outsides, from which the fully automatically driving vehicles provide the flow racks of the picking store.

This system offers the following advantages and special features for the customer:
- Favourable investment costs by integration of three warehouse systems in one silo
- Production of uniform carton sizes that can either be stored and dispatched on pallets, buffered in the supplies store, or picked in small quantities in the Retrapic area
- The warehouse management system with a uniform graphical user interface makes it possible to employ the personnel in all system areas
- WMS, dispatch handling system and controls have been realised by Klug without any additional interface by other suppliers

Below the small parts store, there is the Retrapic picking store
The following data classify Triumph’s new logistics system:
* 147,800 storage locations
* 3 automatic two-mast cranes for the pallet store; load-handling device can accept two pallets at the same time
* 3 semi-automatic cranes with picking cabins for paperless picking man-to-goods (Retrapic system)
* 6 automatic cranes in the small parts store for fully automatic picking of complete cartons
* 4 fully automatic cranes for the fully automatic supply of cartons in the Retrapic store
* Dispatch sorter with accumulation roll lanes for 22 destinations
The system has been designed for the following performances:
* Taking over the up to 2,250 cartons per hour from production as well as suppliers from abroad
* Storage/retrieval of 1,044 cartons per hour in the small parts store
* Storage/retrieval of 191 pallets per hour in the high bay warehouse
* Storage/retrieval of 224 pallets in the supply store (cartons are itemised automatically)
* 2,259 picks per hour in the Retrapic area
* Sorting 3,000 cartons per hour with the dispatch sorter
The central warehouse manages the daily orders from the subsidiaries in different European countries. Moreover, it serves to deliver directly to customers in several countries. The system works smoothly in multi-shift operation.
