Get away from it all!
Canotage de France, a company from Nantes (south of Brittany, on the Loire estuary) was created in 1994. We are European specialist or rowing and sailing classic boats with three models available.
Le Seil is of Norwegian origin. The flat hull is of 5, 40 m length totalling 250 Kg with a lug sail of 11 m² and two pairs of oars. One hundred and five of these boats sail to promote this class of boat to sailing clubs, families and schools. (www.asseils.com).
A national meeting every Pentecost week-end le "Plein Seil" (Full Sail) is the major event and promotes original and beautiful places to sail: Loire in 98, Erdre in 99, Seine in 2000, Brest bay in 2001 and Der lake in Champagne in 2002. The crews are of different origins: families, handicapped people, young people of clubs and sailing schools.
Le Seil is sailing now in France but also in Greece, Switzerland and Britain.
Le PIRMIL (4.50 m) is a reduced model of the ancient fishing boat of the Loire estuary.
In spite of her traditional appearance, she is a very simple but modern little boat. Le PIRMIL has a self-draining cockpit with three ballasts of 160 l assuring better stability in windy conditions. Aluminium centreboards of 1 m depth with two sails of 17 m² total assure speed head on into the wind.
Le PIRMIL (33 unities now) sail in France and Germany.
With Bel-Ami, (4,40 m x 1,36 m, 150 Kg) Canotage de France launch this year a rowing clinker dinghy as they sailed on river Marne and Seine at the end of the XIX century. Elegancy, speed with four rows for four people will take you back at the time of impressionist painters, with Guy de Maupassant and Emile Zola. The Bel-Ami is a perfect boat to hire with a self-draining cockpit when the boat is empty.
Le Seil, PIRMIL and Bel Ami are easy to transport by road. From trailer to sails up they are ready to sail in ten minutes.
Canotage de France organize a cruise every year on river Loire for small classic boats; the next will take place between 1 and 7 July.
