Life Support System (LSS) includes NBC protection and air-conditioning providing survivability and comfort to the crew. The LSS improves the crew performance and mental alertness whilst reducing fatigue in hostile environmental conditions.
LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM (LSS)
Life Support System (LSS) is an integrated system providing comprehensive protection and comfort to the crew on board of a combat vehicle. The LSS improves crew performance and mental alertness whilst reduces fatigue in hostile environmental conditions. A typical LSS includes all or some of the following sub-systems:
-
Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) Protection: One or more of the following NBC protection methods are provided: Overpressure (mask-free) NBC protection; NBC facemask protection using collective NBC filter; Hybrid NBC protection (overpressure and facemask together) and Individual NBC protection system
-
Air Conditioning: Individual cooling using air-cooled overalls or vests; Cabin or spot cooling; NBC facemask air cooling
-
Heating: Cabin or spot heating; NBC facemask air heating
-
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU): An independent auxiliary engine drives the LSS in regular or in silent-watch mode. The APU can also provide battery charging and DC /AC electric power supply
The individual cooling concept is a most effective concept in vehicles with small crews such as MBT and SPH. This concept provides excellent cooling whilst using minimal power. Above, air-cooled NBC protected overall in NBC facemask protection mode.
AIR-CONDITIONING CONCEPT
- The air-conditioners are designed to provide optimal cooling performance in worldwide operational conditions in accordance with NATO STANAG 2895 requirements
- In vehicles where only few people are on board, such as MBT or SPH, an individual cooling concept can be adopted providing excellent performance with minimal cooling capacity
Modular Life Support System (LSS) for Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFV) provides cabin air-conditioning (12kW), NBC protection (overpressure, collective facemasks and hybrid) and NBC facemask cooling and heating.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE LSS
- Self Cleaning heat-exchangers
- Service free system very low life cycle costs
- Designed and qualified per military standards
- EMI /RFI / EMP compliant to the most restrictive military standards
- All the electrical components are submergible
- Designed as modular system for convenient installation and maintenance
Individual NBC protection system is an electric system providing NBC filtered air to one facemask. The system can be easily adopted in every military vehicle.
