Alexandra Palace Goes Digital

Alexandra Palace, in London, required an upgrade of their analogue CCTV recording system, and a network of Wavestore Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) was selected. The robust Linux operating system and instant access to the recorded “footage” were among the compelling reasons for the products selection.

The feature which most impressed, was the ability of the units to recover automatically to their previous operational status within a minute after mains power failure, a benefit that the installers identified during the customer demonstrations undertaken.

The security personnel highlighted the user-friendly screens, overall intuitive nature of the displays and the ability to view any camera on the network quickly and easily from any terminal, as compelling advantages.

The installation engineers were very impressed with the speed and ease of the installation and thereafter the control room staff required no more than a few minutes demonstration to allow them to make initial use of the important replay and search facilities.

The specification included the need for flexible recording capacity, which in this case was 750GB of storage per unit, and across the network the ability to backup any number of video clips recorded on the Wavestore recorders to CD.

The Wavelet recorders are located across from the site but perform as a single system when viewed from the security office. The unique ability to find specific recorded camera pictures quickly and perform a playback frame-by-frame, either forward or reverse was another compelling reason for its selection.
