Corrosion Protection
When we think of damage in transit, it's probably impact damage that instantly comes to mind and Nefab is renowned for protecting large, awkward, sensitive or hazardous equipment from the rigours of distribution. But there are more subtle forces at work along the way, as manufacturers may well know, to their cost.
Corrosion can be insidious and in today's fast moving export environment, products that are despatched to other continents encounter many climatic changes, which create the typical conditions for corrosion to occur.
 Customers within the telecom and automotive industries have been protecting their products successfully using Nefab's bespoke VCI and VPI solutions. Volatile Corrosion (or Phase) Inhibitors ensure that metal products and components reach their destination in the same state as they leave your factory.
 Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors form an intrinsic element of bespoke packaging solutions designed by Nefab for susceptible products. VCIs come in four different formulas, to cover everything from cast iron to precious metals, and in five different forms – paper, foam, bags, emitter cups and cardboard – to suit the nature and shape of the product as well as user convenience.
These VPI or VCI anti-corrosion agents are 'prescribed' by Nefab as part of bespoke packaging solutions for customers shipping sensitive goods across continents. They work by disseminating vapours in an enclosed space that slow down chemical reactions, prevent moisture from reaching metallic surfaces, regulate the PH value and repair the passive layer of oxide.
Whatever type or form of inhibitor is selected by Nefab for a particular product, it will consist only of dry pieces that are ready to use and easily removed at the point of delivery and opening, whereupon the VCI layer 're-volatilises', leaving dry, corrosion-free surfaces.
Not only does this system, as part of Nefab's sophisticated packaging service, keep precision-engineered components intact, it also has many other advantages. It's easy to handle and use, causing no mess, whilst saving time and labour during packing and unpacking, and it's harmless to health and the environment; it can be re-used and recycled and when they're no longer needed VCI materials can be safely disposed of in a dump or incinerated.
