L-3 COMMUNICATIONS AWARDED AUTOMATED SCREENING EQUIPMENT CONTRACT BY QANTAS GROUP
Order Marks Additional International Deployment of L-3s Unique MVT Baggage Screening System.
L-3 Communications Security & Detection Systems, Inc. announced today that it was selected by Qantas Group to supply several Multi-view Tomography (MVT) automated screening systems for the detection of explosives at airports throughout Australia. The contract award includes delivery and installation of the systems into terminals serving the domestic routes of Qantas, as well as other carriers. Qantas will integrate the systems into the existing baggage handling infrastructure for each of the individual airports.
Designed to be integrated into an airports baggage handling system, the L-3 MVT meets the demanding needs of the airline industry which requires high throughput rates while meeting international standards for the automated detection of explosives. MVT systems also support multiple detection algorithms that can be switched on-the-fly to meet varying criteria for explosives detection a feature increasingly important to Australia as the country solidifies its approach to passenger baggage screening.
The MVT can also be integrated into any baggage screening system and is compatible with other L-3 automated explosives detection equipment in networked installations enabling seamless integration of multiple systems. L-3 is providing Qantas a versatile screening solution which capitalizes on easily adaptable technology that can meet varying criteria of international customers, said Al Barber, senior vice president and general manager of L-3 Security &Detection Systems.
"The MVT is the only multi-view explosives detection system that meets the TSAs criteria for explosives detection and Australias increasingly stringent security regulations as they move to international screening standards. Qantas, Australias leading domestic airline, offers service to nearly 80 international destinations in more than 37 countries.
Additionally Qantas operates as a principle in-country screening authority, responsible for baggage screening in terminals in which they operate, reporting to Australias Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS). Qantas serves over 50 cities across Australia. MVT systems are deployed at the worlds most security conscious airports, including London Heathrow Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, and Changi International Airport in Singapore.
