L-3 COMMUNICATIONS SECURITY & DETECTION SYSTEMS PROVIDES X-RAY TECHNOLOGY TO CHINA’S FORBIDDEN CITY

L-3’s PX-M checkpoint system enhances security at Chinese national treasure.

Woburn, MA, May 11, 2005 – L-3 Communications Security & Detection Systems, Inc. was selected by China’s Forbidden City, the world’s largest palace complex, to supply its PX-M X-ray screening system. The contract calls for the immediate delivery and installation of three PX-M units, with others to follow the near future.

The PX-M’s advanced technology provides operators with the best image resolution in its class. Using these high-resolution images, operators are able to rapidly screen objects without compromising security. The compact design is also ideal for high-traffic environments such as the Forbidden City, which receives thousands of visitors per day.

“L-3 is honored to provide China’s Forbidden City with technology that will help secure both visitors and the palace’s rich history,” said Allen Barber, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. “L-3’s PX-M X-ray screening systems provide officials within the Forbidden City with the capability to quickly screen bags and parcels that enter the palace without negatively impacting the facility’s operation.”

The Forbidden City, which lies at the center of Beijing directly across from Tiananmen Square,
functioned as the Imperial Palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is now known as the Palace Museum. It is the world's largest palace complex, covering 720,000 square meters and housing 9,999 buildings. More than seven million tourists and Chinese citizens visit the Forbidden City every year.
