Worlds Largest Networked DVR Installation?
A network of Wavestore recorders is being installed on the Turkish section of the Trans-European Motorway from Edirne, near the Bulgarian/Greek border to Istanbul and then towards the capital Ankara; a distance of 700 kilometres.
Supporting over 1,400 camera inputs and 480 audio channels, it is probably the largest networked recording system to have been contracted. It will provide the capability to monitor all traffic using the motorway and record the activity inside and outside of the tollbooths and control buildings.
Of the 47 locations included in the network, 42 of these are tollbooth sites with control buildings adjacent to them. The remaining 5 locations are Highway maintenance sites that are also included in the programme. A total of 300 tollbooths are monitored, ranging from locations with a single tollbooth up to the largest 32-tollbooth complex.
An array of cameras monitors the general area of each tollbooth site, and includes cameras located at a distance from the tollbooth to monitor & record each vehicle and its license plate. Dome cameras at the tollbooths record the operator, payment counter and driver of each vehicle, and are supported with synchronised audio recording onto the Wavestore recorders.
Other cameras in the network relay images from the perimeters and areas of the control buildings, and monitor the entrances, foyers and the safe rooms where the money from the tollbooths is collected, sorted and accounted for. PCs located in the tool booths that are integral to the payment system, are fitted with converters that automatically record the screen image onto the Wavestore recorders.
The tollbooths operate over a wide area network (WAN) using Ethernet cables, whilst the control buildings will be networked via fibre optic cables (along with internet, telephone and video conferencing), with gigabit LAN switching internally.
The Wavestore recorders also interface to alarm systems, shock detectors, magnetic locks and keypads for the safe rooms, to instantly record any pre-event data as well as record the video & audio data following their activation.
CCTV monitors, located in each control room, display all the cameras at that site, whilst a network of Remote Management PC's are deployed for the highway administration personnel, enabling them to view live or recorded images on any Wavestore recorder in the network and output high quality images onto laser printers. In the event of an incident, whether fire, traffic accident, or criminal activity, the emergency services will be provided with access to the necessary evidential data.
The Turkish language is displayed on all buttons and on screen text of the Wavestore screens, and is one of a range of embedded languages that can be utilised concurrently on a Wavestore network.
