Artillery Rockets
This article shows you 2 Artillery rockets the GMLRS and the RM-70 Modular, which are both developed by Diehl BGT Defence.
GMLRS
GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System) is a multinational program under US direction and responsibility destined to provide the existing MLRS multiple-launch rocket system with higher hit accuracy and a range of up to 75km. At the same time, the warheads transported with the future rocket comply with the new tactical requirements of the German Army. They include introduction of a new unitary warhead and a SMArt(®) submunition warhead with selfdestruction device to be specially developed for the German Army. Furthermore, the MLRS rockets already in service with the armed forces can be updated to the latest safety and performance standards by appropriate retrofit programs such as development of an air-transportable launch platform.
Diehl BGT Defence was involved in development of the GMLRS rocket as German partner of Lockheed-Martin and will develop the new SMArt(®) submunition warhead for the German Army.
RM-70 Modular
RM-70 is a 122mm artillery rocket system mainly used in Central and East European countries. Under contract to the Slovak Government, Diehl BGT Defence has developed - in cooperation with Slovak companies - the RM-70 Modular system which can fire both the previous 122mm rockets of RM-70 and the 227mm MLRS rockets introduced with NATO. Furthermore, upgrades and mode variants of the ammunition are planned to meet new requirements.
The RM-70 Modular launcher can be equipped with a transport and launch container for twentyeight 122mm or six 227mm MLRS rockets. The low system weight enables transportation of the system by air.
The first launcher vehicles for the Slovak Army will be delivered by Diehl BGT Defence in the first half of 2005.
