LEGIC® Technology on your wrist: LAKS becomes the first LEGIC licensee of the watch industry
LEGIC Identsystems Ltd, the leading manufacturer of contactless smart card technology for personal identification applications, has gained a new licensing partner in Austria.
The LAKS GmbH is LEGICs first license partner from the watch-making industry. The company was founded in 1986 by Lucas Alexander Karl Scheybal and has been managed since then as a genuine family business in Austria. LAKS only processes the finest and best materials such as hand-brushed steel, scratch-resistant sapphire glass and movements of the finest quality. LAKS watches are worn and collected within the entire EU, but also in the USA, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Eastern Europe, and in the home of the art of watch-making Switzerland. LAKS has export rates of 98% for some of its products. As a result to the multi-functional, high-level of the technology used, LAKS watches are not just for those hunting for the latest mode or trend. The largest commercial groups in the world are among LAKS customers, because in their Future Lab, the engineers at LAKS are continually developing new models which are especially aimed at the special requirements of commercial customers.
LAKS already has the appropriate experience in the production and promotion of multi-functional wrist watches. Watches with integrated MP3 players have been sold for several years now and successfully. The LAKS SmartTransaction Watch® family is the latest invention from the Future Lab. A LEGIC transponder chip integrated into the watch makes it especially interesting for large companies. Contactless applications, such as personal identification and access control, time & attendance, cashless payments or e-Ticketing can be integrated into the trendy watch. "Our SmartTransaction range of products are equally attractive to both the corporate as well as the leisure sector. Using the contactless, all-in-one-card technology from LEGIC, we continue to expand our multifunctional designs and simultaneously lay the foundation stone for numerous further developments in the future. LEGIC technology is absolutely secure, multifunctional and sustainable, and with the LEGIC license, we keep our fingers on the pulse of the time!", explains Lucas Scheybal, Managing Director of LAKS GmbH.
Stephen Neff, Vice President of Sales & Business Development at LEGIC Identsystems Ltd, is pleased with the new partnership: "With this first direct license issued to a watch manufacturer, we have expanded our network by a new, valuable partner. LAKS has a secured position in the watch sector in Europe and at the same time has a widely-strewn customer portfolio on the world market. This has direct advantages for us as it means that our technology is now spread around the globe. We look forward to an intensive cooperation now and in the future. In the future, LAKS will be equipped with innovative and pioneering ideas and will provide our contactless smart card technology with an additional impetus."

Thanks to the USB Stick and integrated LEGIC Transponder, the LAKS watch is now a multi-functional watch for data exchange and contactless personal identification (A high-resolution picture is available in the press section at www.legic.com)
