First step into the world of CP
10 Months ago I still was unsure as to which career path to take, initially I did think as most service leavers do I need to match my current salary.
The realities are that unless you are in the high echelons of management then you havent got a hope in hells chance.
With the current and ever changing situation in the Middle East and around the world this was the deciding factor that prompted me to look into the world of CP and Course training providers
Once the United Kingdom was deemed as a non hostile environment, but with the recent atrocities in London there is no country in the world that is not classed as a hostile environment.

So choosing the right provider was my main target, this did not come without its pitfalls.
I phoned, E-Mailed, and faxed every company that I knew of. But the course criteria and curriculum where not relevant to the current world threat situation, also I wanted a good return for my money, not just someones name as a reference at the end of my CV.

After a short conversation with a friend of mine, he recommended me to get in touch with a company named Ronin Concepts, the only Hostile Environment trainer in the UK and most probably the world that is current.
Within 2 hrs the MD phoned and explained a basic overlay of the course also stating that it was not possible for a course training plan to be forwarded to me, due to the ever changing trends and SOP, s within the CP world.
This is achieved by Ronin concepts former students constantly updating the company and also with the former student/s teaching on the course in between tours.
The MD is a seasoned veteran from originally The 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment and then later on in his 2nd career with 22 SAS. His wealth and breadth of knowledge are second to none.
The course is designed for low profile work within the hostile environment plus high profile work within the CP circuit. However with the current situation within most Hostile Environments there are more requests for low profile CP operators/Companies.
The course is structured into modules, and the student is constantly assessed throughout the course. The culminating points are an FTX and a short flight overseas which sets the scene for the Tactical Field Firing phase and continuas assessments.
Ref: CTP this is not issued until day 1 of the course.
The course in retrospect is divided into the following.
- Week one
Theory and practical covering all aspects of hostile environment training.
- Week two
HSE medical training with Ex-Med.
- Week three
Practical training and assessments and an FTX + 4x4 and GPS training. Mid course written assessment/exam and SIA written exam.
- Week four
Tactical field firing overseas and FTX.
- 2 Day addition
CV writing/updates and interviews with the MD and situation reports from various recruitment agencies.
The information and training are intense, so you are required to burn the midnight oil a vast majority of the time. So attending the course with an open mind is essential.

Although this course does not fail any student if the student is not up to the required standard then the MD will not recommend you for deployment.
Therefore the student has the further option to re-sit the failed module/s.
This is where other companies fail as they will have no hesitation in keeping your well earned money and send you packing.
No course can teach everything in the period of time permitted so field experience and exposure are critical to the development of any new operator.
I and a few more of the other students where lucky enough to finish the course (with the recommendation from the MD) to bounce straight into a short term contract in London, this was beneficial to all of us as we all learnt a great deal from other seasoned operators who had been working on the circuit for many years in and out of country.

I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone M/F as it delivers the course content/Criteria and experience required for work within any Hostile Environment high or low profile.
So if you are considering moving into the CP world then do your homework as to what your personal requirements are.
My personal research into the industry enabled myself to pick the correct training provider therefore enabling me to place that first step onto the ladder for the CP world.
