Digital Time-lapse Recorders from Mitsubishi Electric
Almost 20 years ago, more precisely in 1983, Mitsubishi Electric in Japan developed the world's first time-lapse recorders and, once the development was ready for mass production, launched it on the world market in 1985. The company immediately applied for a patent on the invention and has since become one of the leading manufacturers in the field of security/time-lapse recorders. Mitsubishi Electric now enjoys steadily growing market share in the United States and Europe. Backed in particular by comprehensive know-how and continuous readiness for innovation, the company has reached the top position it now holds.
The machines that had their origins in the B deck series in 1985 are now in the sixth generation. That top-loader model was the world's first recorder with a fast search function. It was followed by the first front-loader (D deck). The next series was developed as early as 1987. With the E deck, Mitsubishi was the first manufacturer to introduce a recorder on the world market with digital tracking and onscreen menu. Soon afterwards, the first video recorders for home use were developed based on this chassis and marketed in various models and series up to the early 1990s. With the launch of its successor, the F deck, Mitsubishi Electric established itself once and for all as an innovation leader in the industry. Up to then, no other manufacturer had been able to offer recorders with 24 and/or 40 hours' capacity with self-diagnosis and automatic video head cleaning. This highly successful chassis series was further developed for up to 960 hours and S-VHS recorders. Until it was finally replaced by the so-called U deck in 1997. This new chassis with convenient jog-shuttle operation - the fastest reel-to-reel recorder - was able to continue the success of its legendary predecessor and immediately took 1st place in the CCTV industry. The turn of the millennium saw the latest development step to the Alpha deck. Once again, numerous features developed specially for professional use were integrated in this current model chassis and a multi-language menu onscreen menu was added that, since the U deck series has been expanded from four to the present seven languages.
At the end of 1999, Mitsubishi Electric introduced the HS 7424EM time-lapse recorder in Russian especially for the Eastern European market. This was followed by the models HS 1024E and HS 1096E - also featuring Russian. As Mitsubishi Product Marketing Manager Peter Langhein reports, all of these recorders are gradually being introduced with Polish, Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish, English and German. In the coming years, too, Mitsubishi can be counted on to produce further developments and new products in the area of analogue recording (video).
The Future is Digital
Mitsubishi Electric has also been offering dependable, maintenance-free high-end digital recorders for security use for years. The first step into the world of digital recording came with the DX TL100. In the last three years, models such as the DX TL110E, DX TL900, DX TL930E and DX TL1600E followed this. At this year's Security Fair in Essen, the Ratingen-based company will present two new digital recorders. However, the DX TL800E will already be marketed prior to the show and, thanks to its small size, full duplex operation and maximum storage capacity of 240 GB, will quickly find its place in the CCTV industry. Other innovations, also in the area of optional periphery devices/products for the digital recorder range, are in preparation.
DX TL1600EM by Mitsubishi:
New Digital Time-lapse Recorder with Large Range of Features
The DX TL1600EM is a maintenance-free digital time-lapse recorder with a recording capacity of, for example, 1,170 hours at 1 frame per second. And with the standard 60 GB hard drive; it comes with a generous storage capacity. Via a SCSI interface, this can be extended internally/externally to a maximum of 360 GB.
An especially practical solution is offered by the Mitsubishi DX TL1600EM in combination with removable disk drives, e.g. MOD (Magnetic Optical Drive) as a back-up medium. In this configuration, images can be recorded simultaneously on the hard drive and on the MOD - a remarkable convenience in daily surveillance use.
Up to 16 cameras can be connected to the DX TL1600EM and activated or deactivated via a total of eight timer programs, depending on requirements (e.g. opening times). The built-in multiplexer administers all transmitted images in various modes. Thus, the room(s), the building or the property to be viewed always remains visible to the security personnel. The device makes it possible to view each camera image as a full picture, as an enlarged frame (digital zoom) - individually or sequentially in a 4-, 9- or 16-way split.
With the new Mitsubishi digital recorder, too, operation and programming are simple as always: Thanks to jog-shuttle and onscreen menu, the user has the DX TL1600EM fully and quickly under control. A feature that becomes even more important thanks to the recorders extremely fast search and find function.
Via the RJ45 interface, the recorder can be integrated in LANs and conveniently controlled via PC using the included DX PC3 software via TCP/IP. Thus, for example, the comprehensive search mode can be operated from a PC and delivers recorded images immediately that can also be played back sequentially. There are five different settings for the image quality in general:

New from Mitsubishi Electric:
The Digital Time-lapse Recorder
DX TL800E
The new digital time-lapse recorder DX TL800E from Mitsubishi Electric will be on the market very soon. With a new look and new features - change to digital, changes for the better.
The new surveillance pro offers 80 GB on-board storage capacities that can be extended up to 240 GB. It operates in full duplex mode with nine-camera inputs incl. audio recording. And the motion detection function can be set individually for each camera. The device comes with a video and audio output right up front to hook up to the monitor. Recorded images are backed up on Compact Flash Cards. With the help of the alarm list, stored alarms can be accessed directly. Thus, the required camera images are available in seconds. The recording mode (fields/second) and picture quality of the camera inputs can be adjusted to the surveillance concept in use, i.e. set individually. And thanks to the Wavelet compression method, the DX TL800E delivers even better picture quality at the video output.
