CTR Services has developed a course that is recognised by the SIA and Buckinghamshire Chiltern University College gaining the UK Close Protection License and 20 credits of the Protective Security Management Foundation Degree.
With the increase in terrorism and effect of terrorism on business etc, the need for greater security is paramount. The security industry has grown immensely meaning contracts that would have normally been dealt with on a government level are now open to privatisation, for example Iraq. There are many companies such as Controlled Risks Group, Armour Group, and Olive, to name just a few, now operating in Iraq.
There have always been threats to business and individuals working in hostile environments such as the oil industry in South America. Situations like kidnapping are major revenue for various illegal activist groups, which insistently protective teams have been operating on for years.
In the UK with the increase in security related threats like biological and chemical attacks, child kidnapping and celebrity stalking, the need for protective escorts is on the increase.
This is a new era of close protection and to meet this new environment requires more than a person with military background and martial arts experience. The need for qualified seasoned professionals has never been greater.

In providing the first Higher Education Certificate in Close Protection. This certificate could be your first step towards receiving a Foundation Degree in Professional Security Protection.
This new type of qualification enables Close Protection Operatives (CPOs) the opportunity to work towards a Higher Education qualification within the Protective Services whilst at work. The Foundation Degree (FD) Program and the CTR Services Ltd Continual Professional Development Program (CPDP), provides for the first time, the opportunity and encouragement for CPOs to achieve this accolade.
We have developed a course that will enable you to gain the SIA Licence to practice Close Protection duties in the UK and also to gain 20 credits towards the Foundation Degree. This comprises 15 credits from the 4-week Protective Security short course and 5 credits for Guaranteed Employment with CTR Services Ltd (50 hours logged Paid work experience), to qualify you with the Certificate from the University College.
CTR Directors and Management Team
Director - Tremaine Kent - a former Special Forces Communicator and bomb disposal officer working with the Royal and Diplomatic Protection Teams on VVIP covers. Tremaine has 7 years commercial operational experience within management of protective services in the UK, USA and Thailand. Whilst being the Director of CTR Services Ltd, he is also the Coordinator of the first developed Foundation Degree in Protective Services Management at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC), approved and recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
Director - Adrian Kent - a former Special Observer and intelligence Officer with 8 years military and 3 years commercial experience. He is a highly qualified investigator and surveillance manager with extensive experience working with blue-chip clientele. His development in training promotes the first Surveillance and Intelligence officers course soon to be recognised as a level3 qualification. Adrian is also the program manager of CTR Services R&D department, which develops all of CTR’s technical and covert equipments.
UK Operations Manager – David Hughes – a former member of the HM Forces with an accolade of operational tours within hostile environments. He has an exceptional portfolio of clients that he has protected, developing with on going clients a more intelligent approach to protection by implementing advanced procedures and policies that integrate within the client’s lifestyles. He also is developing the Protective Security Management Foundation Degree.
CTR Training Team
 Overseas Operations Manager and CP Chief Instructor - E.M – 16 years service 22 SAS with the Counter Terrorist Wing & Protective Security Cell (BG Cell) with exceptional teaching and operational experience, thus qualifying him as a current and knowledgeable instructor. He has completed and organised many overseas commercial operations. His instructor accolade is too vast to list.
Surveillance/Intelligence and CP Instructor – M.C – 22 years service MI5 as a senior planning manger of the security services and 4 years service with 14 Int Coy as surveillance team leader. He has an amazing commercial background working with some of the largest blue-chip companies in the UK and overseas. He has developed many advanced training packages and delivers these packages with an unequalled passion.
CP Protective Driving Instructor – B.C - 18 years professional race car driving and instructing. He is not only a defensive and protective driving instructor for many organisations but also an accomplished champion in the Days of Thunder ASCAR ASA series, British NASCAR and Formula 3 circuits. His portfolio of driving experience is not matched within the Commercial Close Protection Profession.
Technical Surveillance Counter Measures (TSCM) – J.L – Retired member of the FCO whose duties were technical defence of British missions worldwide. He then became an instructor of the foreign office training school, with which he taught cipher communications. He is also classed as the most respected in his field and his developed equipment is used commercially as well as governmentally.
CP Instructors from CTR Operations – Unnamed but 7302 Trainers – The reason that CTR Services uses members of their operational team is so the most up-to-date experience can be provided to students. We are reluctant to choose instructors who haven’t worked a CP Task for years. “You are Only as good as your last job”.
CTR Close Protection Training Academy (Recognised By the SIA)
 CTR Services 4-week (220 hour) Protective Security Certificate Course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the private sector. It takes into account all the requirements of mandatory licensing by the SIA, including first aid training and takes the students one-step forward towards the foundation degree. The course is open to both men and women, regardless of previous experience or occupation.
Emphasis is placed on essential knowledge and skills required to be effective within a CTR Operational team, or for today’s commercial Close Protection Sector. Relevant theory is delivered by qualified (C&G 7302 & 1886 Conflict Management) Instructors. They provide exceptional PowerPoint presentations, visual aids and handouts. Knowledge gained in theory is then applied in practical real life training exercises to reinforce the learning experience. Written examinations and tutor assessments are carried out after every module to allow students to recognise potential deficiencies and thus correct them. The course culminates in a final exercise, which the students rotate between 3 major roles. On completion, students are graded and given a course report. The SIA licence examination is also taken during the final week. This is externally marked and results notified in the form of a certificate. Details are also electronically up-loaded to the SIA.
The SIA License requirement is 150hrs Guided Learning Hours but CTR CP Certificate is 220hrs with a written and practical exam. Your portfolio at the end of the training will have:
· SIA Licence Requirements
· CTR Protective Security Diploma
· BCUC Protective Security Certificate (30 Credits)
· CP Officers Fire Fighters Certificate (Norfolk Fire Brigade).
· CTR CP Officers TSCM basic introduction Certificate
· CTR CP Officers Advanced Driving and Car Control Certificate
· RSD CP Officers Protective Defence Certificate.
· RBSD Terrorist Survival Certificate
· First Aid at Work H&S Certificate
On successful completion of the course students will be provided 50HRS PAID WORK EXPERIENCE with CTR Services Limited. Which they will be assessed and work for the full module of the foundation degree. Some of the students will be offered work and others placed on registers and recruitment sites we hold partnership with.
