BQT Solutions & Lenel integrate Mifare® DESFire

The DESFire reader opens up a global market for BQT. Lenel and BQT Solutions Integrate Mifare DESFire Technology
First fully integrated, GSC-compliant solution to use the new highest-security smart card chip technology
Rochester, NY, USA and Sydney, Australia —November 3rd, 2003 — Lenel Systems International, the global leader in the innovation of integrated security systems, and BQT Solutions Limited, a world leader in biometric and smart card technology development, announced today that they have partnered to introduce to market the new Mifare DESFire technology from Royal Philips Electronics. Mifare DESFire is a new and advanced technology offering that provides the highest level of security available in contactless smart cards including triple Data Encryption Standard (DES) encryption between the card and reader over the RFID link, along with a built-in crypto processor on the card.
DESFire technology is compliant with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s GSC-IS 2.1 specification for government smart card interoperability. The technology was recently designated for use in the United States Military Common Access Card (CAC) program, and has quickly gathered interest among numerous government agencies.
As part of its Total Security Knowledge Management Solution™, Lenel has developed and introduced the OnGuard OpenCard™ format, the world’s first offering in the security industry that creates a non-proprietary, open standard for the information encoded on contactless smart cards. The OnGuard OpenCard format, which meets GSC-IS 2.1 requirements, defines applications for access control, biometrics and demographics for use in both government and commercial installations. Lenel’s OnGuard OpenCard format.
