Wireless CCTV and Wireless Alarm Systems
Site security remains one of the most troublesome issues facing building and construction companies. The pressures of competitive tendering leave thin margins with little or no room for error or delay if a project is to be completed at a profit. However, in spite of big improvements in training, quality, efficiency and innovative changes to some construction methods successful completion is often jeopardised by security failures.
The need for security clearly varies from one area or type of project to another. In all cases where security measures are required the same problems have to be faced:
· In many projects the security budget either does not exist or has been reduced to a token of what is required in order to win the tender
· Security is usually perceived as a nuisance, at best a necessary evil and an expense that should be avoided whenever possible
· Heavy reliance on subcontractors often makes the site managers task of establishing good site disciplines, on which effective security depends, almost impossible
· Traditional measures rely on static guards or mobile patrols; the former expensive and frequently ineffective, the latter almost always no more than a nod in the direction of the insurance company
· The perception is that frequently static guards become part of the security problem rather than part of the solution.
· The new licensing and regulation regime to be enforced within the next 12 months will improve standards but make it even harder to find good quality guards and cost are expected to rise significantly
· Reports and feedback to site management on site security operations are practically non existent
Now there is a new approach from Tag Guard Systems. A combination of 24 hour monitored wi-fi CCTV and wireless alarm equipment coupled with closely managed manpower support and response is combined with a comprehensive reporting and management information system. This all-in approach removes the inefficiencies and contradictions of traditional measures by placing contractual responsibility with a single provider who has the capability of providing whatever solution is most appropriate for the circumstances.
Wireless alarm and camera systems allow the right mix of equipment to be deployed and reconfigured during the life of the project as circumstances change. The absence of cabling means that the systems are more robust and less liable to interference and tampering than wired systems. Equally importantly, equipment can be placed in the locations best suited for the job whereas with cabled systems the equipment locations are restricted by the need to allow for cable runs.
Mobile network communications and the increasing availability of broadband for CCTV have made inexpensive remote monitoring an established reality for almost any construction site.
The combination of technology and managed manpower is typically provided at less than half the cost of a single static guard. Systems are remotely monitored for security activity and are also kept under constant maintenance surveillance. Any system failures are detected within moments and appropriate action is initiated to deal with the problem. Tag Guard security systems do not need to take tea breaks, do not fall asleep, do not dial premium rate numbers, do not have unscheduled holidays or sick days and work at full performance 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
The detailed reports presented to site management provide useful information about activity on site that is otherwise never detected. For the first time a contractor can see what he is getting for his money and manage the costs down. The actions of subcontractors and others on the site when it is supposed to be closed expose the risk of health & safety breaches for the contractor. The existence of a system can go a long way towards dealing with the responsibility for preventing undetected access that could result in injury to members of the public. This responsibility can even extend to cover a potential thief or vandal!
