Telindus Installs Digital Video Network for London Underground WHEN LONDON UNDERGROUND TOOK THE DECISION TO UPGRADE TO A DIGITAL VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM, THEY APPROACHED TELINDUS TO SUPPLY THE SOLUTION. PART OF A 1.2 BILLION POUND INVESTMENT, THE NEW SYSTEM WILL ENABLE THE TRANSPORT PROVIDER TO OPERATE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE ACROSS THE WHOLE OF THE UNDERGROUND NETWORK, USING ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE (ATM) TECHNOLOGY.
The first phase of the project directly replaces the legacy analogue video network and video transmission at 180 stations while providing transport and encoding for the remaining stations matrices. This covers 25,000 video cameras with an expansion capability up to a further 250,000 cameras. More importantly this expansion can be handled by the network solution to be supplied. Telindus digital video solution is based on the market leading Centauri multi-slot video codec chassis, manufactured by CellStack Systems. As well as responsibility for the design, testing, installation and commissioning of the entire network, Telindus has won a 20 years support and training contract. "The biggest challenge would be in finding a flexible system; our old analogue system offered limited views and functionality to the British Transport Police, it was extremely rigid; we needed a dynamic system and one we knew would work real-time i.e. could establish a video session across any point of the network within 1 second. The solution proposed by Telindus CellStack Systems Centauri met all criteria for us." Bob Langdon Telindus Corporate Tel: E-mail: |
