A fix in time for Quicks
by Gallagher Security Management Systems
When Quicks Freight Hauliers moved to new premises, security of their new site was a primary concern. With many thousands of pounds worth of customers goods in their care, including freight items for TNT (one of their largest customers) it was of paramount importance that they could offer assurance that every possible care had been taken to ensure the security of the new site and its buildings.
Ben Quick began by consulting a number of security companies, but was not satisfied that the solutions they came up with, though worthy in their own right, had the scope to offer the level of site-wide security he required. Finally, he contacted local security specialists, Perimeter Security Solutions. He began by stressing that he was looking for a fully integrated security solution: one that would provide protection at the perimeter plus user friendly control over personnel movements inside. Furthermore, he required that it should be cost effective in both initial installation and long term running costs. Time was also now of the essence, as much had been wasted on earlier consultations, and he needed someone who could respond quickly.
Perimeter Security Solutions did indeed respond quickly, and recommended that Quicks should install an integrated security solution from Gallagher Security Management Systems. The outer defences would be taken care of using Power Fence, Gallaghers own class-leading perimeter protection system. This electric Security Fence system is a powerful and highly effective deterrent which, due to its innovative pulsed delivery system, has the advantage of also being totally safe. The system is also virtually false-alarm free and is enhance by a sophisticated monitoring and control system which allows for specific zone control and full integration with tertiary security features. Inner security would be affected using card reader access control systems, also from the Gallagher group. The Cardax Access Control system could be configured to not only enforce access authorisation, but could monitor personnel movements to ensure that no area was left unsecured or no member of staff was unaccounted for in the event of an emergency such as a fire. The entire system would enable coordinated management of the security of the entire site, but without hindering the free movement of authorised personnel.
Protecting staff and maintaining security at the gate were also important considerations. With freight lorries moving on and off site on a continual basis, night and day, the main gate appeared to present itself as a potential weak spot, but card reader systems installed here too, would allow drivers to set and unset specified security features and open and close gates without having to expose themselves to risk by continually leaving the cab.
Karl Philbin, of Perimeter Security Solutions, explained that the entire package could be specifically tailored to meet Quicks specified requirements of systems integration, flexibility of use and scope for future expansion. This, coupled with an attractive installation price and low long term running costs was enough to persuade Ben Quick that this was the system he had been looking for, and following a meeting with the companys insurers, AXA, who approved the system wholeheartedly, Perimeter Security Solutions were able to begin work straight away. Now with the system fully operational, Ben Quick is delighted with its performance and the peace mind afforded from knowing his site is secure.
