EXIAN DUAL POLYCARBONATE IDENTIFICATION AND SECURITY CARD STOCK
by Nigel Ward
Digimarc Exian Dual polycarbonate ID card stock incorporates the best of all available materials and provides an impressive array of personalisation and security feature options. It is the best of its kind on the market today.
Why ExianDual?
Digimarcs ExianDual polycarbonate card has been designed with the customer in mind. Our mission is to reduce costs and increase the issuers and holders satisfaction with the cards.
The ExianDual card is designed to give the issuer the maximum card security feature and personalisation options at a very competitive cost.
Ten year life
A strong external polycarbonate shell and a flexible core, create a card that offers issuers the quality, security and durability demanded for major ID programmes. The low cost of the base card combined with a ten year card life expectancy can provide massive cost savings in any ID card programme. The reliability of ExianDual is directly related to the durability of the card under stress. ExianDual retains its structural strength but also provides the flexibility required not to tear, break or rip. In testing, the ExianDual polycarbonate card easily exceeded ISO testing standards of 100,000 bends. The card can withstand temperatures as low as -70F and as high as 200F.
Over a ten year life, an ExianDual will retain its looks and the quality of its printing. It won't snap and has made forgery virtually impossible.
Over-the-counter or central issue
Digimarcs Exian Dual ID card incorporates the best available materials and provides an impressive array of personalisation and security feature options. It can be produced centrally using Digimarcs System 600 card production and personalisation system or it can be supplied as preformed cards for over-the-counter personalisation using Digimarc's Centrian Workstations and Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer (D2T2) technology. Card Security The security features are intertwined with the personal data, one cannot be manipulated without affecting the other. The ExianDual card consists of three layers, with an outer polycarbonate shell enclosing a flexible polyolefin core. These layers cannot be separated without rendering the card useless.
Exian Proprietary Security Features
ExianSecure
Is an optically variable ink (typically gold or silver), which is used to print images or text on the inner side of the polycarbonate shell. The ink appears and then disappears with variation in the angle of viewing. Any attempt at alteration destroys the laminate. This feature does not require any special equipment for verification. Ultra violet (UV) inks may be blended with the visible ExianSecure inks for an additional layer of anti-counterfeit security.
Bi-colour ExianSecure Is an optical ink that has a two-colour function. When viewed directly it has a subtle colour but as the card is rotated the feature changes to another colour.
Tri-colour ExianSecure (patent pending)
Consists of three optically variable inks printed on the on the inner side of the polycarbonate shell. The ink appears and disappears with variation in the angle of viewing. The repetitive nature of the pattern used combined with the reflective properties of the three inks make the irregularities caused by attempted alteration readily apparent. This feature does not require any
special equipment for verification.
Tri-colour ExianSecure UV
Consists of three optically variables on the inner side of the polycarbonate shell, as above, but with the addition of UK ink. The tri-colour ink appears and disappears with variation in the angle of viewing and the UV ink is an invisible, covert, anti-counterfeit security feature that becomes visible when an ultraviolet light is used to illuminate the card.
ExianScript
Is a unique patent-pending covert feature that contains variable data micro-printed in obscure locations on the card. The ExianScript usually consists of a combination of the applicants initials and date of birth. If visible date of birth is altered, a quick check with a magnifying glass will show a discrepancy between the visible and hidden data. Attempts to counterfeit the document would require knowledge of the feature and how to generate it.
ExianProtect
Is a tamper resistant laminate for over the counter (OTC) issue, which ensures any attempted alteration will be evident. Because the 1-mil laminate is bonded securely to the card, attempts to remove the laminate will result in the noticeable destruction of printed data and graphics.
ExianGhost(patent pending)
Using a special UV fluorescent dye, a fully detailed ghost UV image of the cardholders portrait can be printed anywhere on the card. This UV can only be seen by using UV light. This technology provides personalised or variable hidden images for document authentication and prevents the possible use of uncontrolled materials to create a counterfeit document. Attempted intrusion to card will result in splitting the UV, resulting in obvious signs of tampering.
ExianVartext (patent pending) Variable UV text is a unique covert counterfeit deterrent security feature. Personalised UV alphanumeric data may be placed at any location on the cards front surface.
ExianGlo
This security feature provides a visible ink that changes colour when viewed under ultraviolet light.
ExianPrimeUV
An invisible security feature that provides full colour printing of UV fluorescent images. These images are printed using red, green and blue phosphor pigment inks. A bright, full colour image becomes visible when the card is illuminated using ultraviolet light.
