Security specialist Allen-Vanguard has developed a bespoke kit to aid customs officials in the detection of contraband.
The Contraband Search Kit incorporates a microprocessor-controlled detector which senses material thickness and density and triggers an alarm if a space is filled with concealed material. Its ideal for detecting hidden drugs, explosives, currency or weapons in car doors, fuel tanks and cavities behind container walls.
Also included in the kit are rigid and flexible endoscopes allowing visual inspections to be made in concealed enclosures or behind panels. False walls can be detected by an ultrasonic distance estimator, and a telescopic search mirror fitted with a torch enables search of otherwise inaccessible areas under vehicles, on top of crates or behind panelling, roof and ceiling voids.
Customs checks are becoming increasingly stringent, and in return people smuggling contraband are using more innovative measures, said Roy Peers-Smith, group chief executive officer at Allen-Vanguard. The Contraband Search Kit provides a rapid and efficient means of detecting any hidden material, even if it is carefully sealed and obscured from view.
