Lt. Col. Oliver North and Major General Dennis K. Jackson among keynoters at NCSC 2004 Annual Conference

ANNAPOLIS, MD--April 8, 2004--Sixty government and private-sector experts on cargo theft, anti-terrorism and border protection will speak during the National Cargo Security Council’s 2004 Annual Conference, June 12-16 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev.

NCSC Chairman David A. Jones, CPP, VP-Corporate Loss Prevention and Security for Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A., Inc., says the conference will be “the largest and most international ever held because of the post-9/11 need to protect our borders and to assure the safe and secure movement of global trade."

Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North--regularly seen on Fox Cable News--will address the opening session on Monday, June 14. Army Major General Dennis K. Jackson, former head of logistics in both Afghanistan and Iraq, will address the awards banquet on Tuesday.

General Jackson, who will receive NCSC’s National Leadership Award, recently retired after a 35-year military career. He is credited with implementing high-tech logistics solutions in the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars, reporting directly to General Tommy Franks during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Department of Homeland Security and many blue-chip manufacturers and retailers have adopted Jackson's logistics solutions.

Other notable speakers include U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice-President for Homeland Security Andrew Howell and Ravi Ron, former Director of Security for Tel Aviv airport in Israel, who will detail how the world's most secure airport earned that reputation. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge is invited.

"The NCSC conference will showcase our successful three-year effort to mobilize government, shippers and transportation companies worldwide in a unified plan to thwart cargo theft and terrorists' threats. Speakers will address the most recent DHS and FBI warnings of attacks on trucks, trains and busses, in addition to sea lanes and port cities," Chairman Jones added.

NCSC estimates that cargo crime is an $18-billion hit on the U.S. economy and a $54-billion loss globally.

The conference will include 60-plus exhibits of companies that produce products, programs and technology to thwart cargo crime and terrorism.
